You may hear the same line when ESY comes up:
“It’s about regression and recoupment.”
That may be part of the story.
It is not always the whole story.
And sometimes schools say it like it's a final decision.
It isn't.
Because ESY is not always just about whether a child loses skills over a break.
Sometimes it is about a skill that is just starting to
emerge.
Sometimes it is about independence.
Sometimes it is about communication, peer interaction, or something else that could be disrupted by a long gap in services.
Your child should not have to crash first just to prove support is needed.
That is one of the things we are talking about in tomorrow’s live episode of The Art of Advocacy:
ESY is Built Around Your Child, NOT a Calendar
If ESY has ever sounded too narrow, too rushed, or too already-decided, come join me.
We’re going to talk about
what you are often not told, what to notice, and why some ESY conversations deserve a much closer look.
