When you ask the teachers how your child is doing in their Social Studies and Science classes and the answer you get is, “Pretty Good.”  That’s a red flag.

Your child may be sitting in the general education class and that’s about all.
You know, sitting at the back of the room with a para, doing something completely off-topic, and you're thinking, "Come on, this isn't real inclusion."

It's a situation too many of us have been in.

Let's face it: Our kids have so much to offer and learn, yet up until now, the classroom setup and the instructional strategies haven't cut it.

The silver lining? There's a way to improve it, and it starts with having conversations with your child's school team so there's agreement on the answers to THE 5 questions.

Let's break them down:

1. What does my child already know about the topic? 
This helps teachers connect new learning to what your child already understands.

2. What are the key concepts, vocabulary, and skills my child will learn? 
It's all about setting clear, achievable goals and having EXPECTATIONS that your child can learn.

3. How will the staff present the information to my child? 
Because we know one size doesn't fit all in learning.

4. What choices will my child have to show what they've learned?
It's important for our kids to express their understanding in ways that work for them.

5. What instructional materials are needed, and who's responsible for providing them? 
Keeping everyone on the same page is critical.

The 5 questions aren't just another "how-to" guide; it's about getting your voice and your child's voice heard, coming up with real answers and making sure our kids are learning right alongside their classmates.

Because if these questions go unasked and unanswered, chances are your child will not be actively part of the learning, the discussions, and the discoveries.
