District-Wide Inclusion: Let's Build a Community of Learners
Published: Tue, 05/03/22
Do you feel defeated trying to get your school district to change its practices?
Are you second guessing yourself and wondering if what you're advocating for is really what's best for your child?
As families and educators have looked for strategies to promote inclusion, we often rely on our relationships to include a single student or group of students.
This is the same approach that we used in the 1990s as families advocated for their child to be educated in the same class as their neighbors and friends.
But we’ve come a long way in the last 30 years! We know schools can transform how they operate so ALL children and youth who live in their communities can be included.
We know that inclusion will only be sustained through intentional district support. And we know that cross-disciplinary collaboration is key.
Dr. Carol Quirk will share Maryland Coalition for Inclusive Education's (MCIE) district system change process that results in school transformation, including stakeholders and families in the process.
You'll want to be with us live on Thurs., May 5th because you'll learn some valuable strategies for creating sustainable change in your own school district.
