What would it be like to be judged that you are incapable and unworthy of participating in community life?
What if your high school student with developmental disabilities spent their days not going to classes, but instead spent most days sorting, assembling, and packaging items so they could be ready to work in an adult sheltered workshop?
Imagine being 47 years old, hit by a drunk driver and becoming a quadriplegic. Instead of receiving services at home you were told to you’d have to live at a nursing home for 90 days and then you could be eligible for community services.
What do all these scenarios have in common?
All are examples of segregation, discrimination, and being considered less than.
Join us on Thursday, Sept. 24th as we look at the impact of the Supreme Court decision, Olmstead v. L.C. and Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s majority decision that affirmed the right of people with disabilities to live in the community.
