Taking a virtual road trip this summer? I hope you're mapping out time for yourself, family, and your community.
We've already spent months inside, often with what seems like a few choices of how we use our time. Now it's a new kind of summer...
The good news is our guest; Kiki McGough has some unique ideas on how we can map out our summer
plans.
1. Ourselves
Routinely engage in activities that calm you down. It might be taking long walks, sitting outside on your porch, cleaning, have a face-time phone call with a friend, cooking, etc.
What helps you not only calm down but also what enables you to be proactive, so you stay more regulated? Do more of that.
2. Our Children
Make a Someday Jar. Use an empty jar and have your children suggest what they want to do when the COVID-19 safety pre-cautions are changed to the next level. Write those suggestions on a slip of paper and put in the Someday Jar. When there are changes in what you can do in your community, draw a slip of paper from the Someday Jar
and go do this!
3. Community Idea
Showing compassion and gratitude boosts the feel-good hormones (serotonin and dopamine) and actually helps you feel better. I loved this story that Kiki shared about a woman in Colorado who started a free community giving table where she set out some extra cans of food and household items, free for her neighbors. It's grown into a
non-profit, Hope, Connection, and Community where others, including businesses, are contributing free items that families can pick up and use.
