When our son Dylan was born and the genetic testing came back, we found out he had Down syndrome.
My two greatest fears were that Dylan would wind up living in a group home,
away from family and not being accepted. My other fear was that when Dylan went to school, other kids would make fun of him.
Our friends said everything would be easy - after all both my husband and I were special education teachers.
Yes, I felt confident when Dylan was a baby that we would have an easy time getting him the education he
deserved.
However, in 1991 when Dylan was 3 and we were having disagreements with the school district, I knew I needed to quickly get some new advocacy tools.
Because what I was trying wasn't working.
Over the decades of advocating for my own students and for Dylan, I knew the lessons I learned needed
to be shared with other families.
I’ve done this in a variety of ways, after retiring from teaching. I'm an educational advocate, host a weekly Facebook live show, author of a book for families, speaker at conferences, and recently a facilitator for a 5 day challenge: The IEP Scavenger
Hunt.
Now, I can't wait to tell you about a NEW opportunity for you!
If you've ever wished it was easier to get what your child deserves
at school, this is for you!
I've designed an online course with many live interactive activities:
